Decades ago, the Junior League of High Point opened and operated a JLHP Bargain Boutique.  This initiative made quality second-hand clothing available to community members at deeply discounted prices.  In 2002, through a collaboration between the Junior League of High Point and the High Point YWCA, the YWCA’s Women’s Resource Center was established, which included a women’s Career Closet.  The clothes that had once been available in the JLHP Bargain Boutique were made available to women in need through the YWCA’s Career Closet.  For nearly two decades, the YWCA’s Career Closet provided professional attire to women in High Point, which facilitated their entrance into and upward mobility within the work world.  When the YWCA closed the Career Closet our community’s women lost a valuable resource. One of the major goals of Working Wardrobe is to help fulfill women’s longstanding and currently unmet need for professional attire. By providing needed clothing, we believe that Working Wardrobe will help women in the High Point community find jobs, sustain employment, and advance professionally.  This could, by extension propel women and their families toward better lives filled with more economic independence, as well as improved mental and physical well-being.

Our Story

Meet our Founders

Working Wardrobe emerged from the co-founders’ shared passion for community service and drive to empower women in the greater High Point community.  The founders met through their mutual involvement in the Junior League of High Point, and it was through that platform that they gained a heightened awareness of the many challenges posed by poverty in the High Point community.  From this service grew the desire to create Working Wardrobe with the hope of enriching the lives of women and children challenged by clothing insecurity.
